Last year, more than 5,900 volunteers donated about 16,000 hours of time to help us feed Iowans in need. Sign up to volunteer for a one-time event, as a regular volunteer or as a skills-based volunteer, and use your talents to benefit your neighbors in need.

Regular Volunteer Opportunities: Great for Groups or Individuals!

  • Food Drive Sorting — We receive donations of food items that need labeled, counted, and boxed. We need volunteer help to make this possible and opportunities are scheduled in advance before we know what the food items may be when they arrive. Help us accept more food! Here are some examples:
    • Packing BackPack sacks
    • Checking dates and food safety of food drive items
    • Bagging bulk produce
    • Putting bulk rice or pasta into family sized bags
    • Boxing up like items into equally weighted boxes
    • Bread sorting
    • Family Box Packing

Food items sorted in our volunteer center support our 625 partner agencies including our School Pantry Program and our Mobile Pantry Program.

Skills-Based Volunteering allows you to put your talents and experience to work for Food Bank of Iowa. Opportunities are diverse and can be tailored to match your skills. Complete our form to get started!

  • Current Needs:
    • Data Entry
    • Drivers for a large van
    • Administrative assistance
    • Special event volunteers

Volunteer opportunities at Food Bank of Iowa do count for school or work service hours (e.g., Silver Cord), but not court-ordered community service.
