Regular Volunteer Opportunities: Great for Groups or Individuals!

  • Food Sorting — We receive donations of food items that need labeled, counted and boxed. We need volunteer help to make this possible and opportunities are scheduled in advance before we know what the food items may be when they arrive. Help us accept more food! Here are some examples:
    • Packing BackPack sacks
    • Food drive sorting
    • Checking dates and food safety of food drive items
    • Bagging bulk produce
    • Putting bulk rice or pasta into family sized bags
    • Boxing up like items into equally weighted boxes
    • Bread sorting
    • Family box packing

Food items sorted in our volunteer center support our 677 partner agencies including our School Pantry Program and our Mobile Pantry Program.

Skills-Based Volunteering allows you to put your talents and experience to work for Food Bank of Iowa. Opportunities are diverse and can be tailored to match your skills. Complete our form to get started!

  • Common Needs:
    • Data entry
    • Drivers for a large van
    • Administrative assistance
    • Special event volunteers

Volunteer opportunities at Food Bank of Iowa do count for school or work service hours (e.g., silver cord), but not court-ordered community service.
