Planned Giving is an exceptional way for you to partner with us in fighting hunger across the state of Iowa. Because this type of giving is tailored to your financial needs, planned gifts can help you make a meaningful impact as we strive to serve food-insecure families in 55 Iowa counties. These types of gifts fit a variety of needs and can also provide you with significant financial and tax benefits.

Join Our Legacy Circle
Including Food Bank of Iowa in your will or trust is a common and simple way to ensure that we can meet the needs of food-insecure Iowans for years to come. A specific gift amount or a percentage of your estate can be directed to Food Bank of Iowa. You can also designate us as a full or partial beneficiary of any of the following:

  • Retirement plans, such as an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b)
  • Life insurance policy
  • Financial accounts at your bank, brokerage account, CD’s
  • Property, and other appropriate assets

*Please let us know if you have made the decision to include Food Bank of Iowa in your will so we may include you in our Legacy Circle.

Stock Gifts
Maximize your gift and income tax deduction by donating stock. By donating stock directly to our Food Bank of Iowa, you can avoid recognition of capital gain and eliminate any income tax resulting from the sale of the stock.

Please follow these easy steps:

  • Contact your broker or financial advisor to initiate the stock transfer.
  • Complete the stock form (link below) and follow the instructions on the form to ensure accuracy
  • Let us know the details of this transfer by sending a copy of the form or sending an email to Bergetta Beardsley, VP of Philanthropy. The contact information is on the form.
  • Upon confirmation of transfer, Food Bank of Iowa will send an acknowledgment of receipt of your gift.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution
If you are 70 ½ years old or older, every year you can ask your IRA Administrator to transfer up to $100,000 to go directly to a non-profit organization of your choice. Because your gift goes directly to a qualified charity, the IRA distribution is excluded from your adjusted gross income and will offer tax benefits for you.

Donor-Advised Funds
Donor-advised funds are one of the fastest-growing, easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to support a charity. They allow donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then direct donations wherever they choose. There is a lot of flexibility with this type of fund, and you can contribute to the fund as frequently as you like.

Do you have a donor-advised fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines? You can give to Food Bank of Iowa directly from your fund online through GIVEdsm.

Endow Iowa Fund
Contributing to Food Bank of Iowa’s Endow Iowa Fund allows you to make a gift to the future of Iowa while receiving a generous 25 percent state tax credit. Our Endow Iowa Fund is housed at the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation. Learn more about the Endow Iowa Fund.
