KCCI & Food Bank of Iowa to Host an All-Day Food Drive

April 15, 2020 | COVID-19, Press Releases

KCCI is joining with Food Bank of Iowa on Wednesday, Apr., 15, for KCCI Project CommUNITY Half-Million-Meals Challenge.

During these unprecedented times, Food Bank of Iowa has been notably affected. 48% of food acquired by Food Bank of Iowa comes from donations. The economic hardships Central Iowans are facing due to COVID-19 are creating challenges with the supply. Partner agencies have been ordering more than double the amount of food compared to distribution numbers prior to the COVID-19 crisis.

We are incredibly grateful for KCCI’s generous support and their enthusiasm around creating awareness during this time of need,” said Michelle Book, president and CEO, Food Bank of Iowa. “The support we are receiving at this time allows us the flexibility required to meet the rapidly changing need in our communities.”

On Wednesday KCCI will lend its voice to this important effort with a goal to raise enough money to supply five hundred thousand meals to Iowans in need. The station will marshal it’s on-air and digital resources to create awareness for the need and publicize the best ways to give.

People can donate at give.foodbankiowa.org/ge/kcci, by texting COVID19 to 515-303-4002, or mailing a check to P.O. Box 1517, Des Moines, IA 50305.

“I’m proud of the great work of KCCI’s journalists to continue to follow and share this unprecedented health and financial crisis,” said KCCI President and General Manager, Brian Sather. “We can use the power of our reach to help raise money to ensure Iowan’s who are the hardest hit can count on Food Bank of Iowa to sustain their food supply.”
