Des Moines, IA (August 20, 2020)—In Iowa, one in nine people struggle with food insecurity—meaning they have insufficient or unreliable access to enough nutritious food to live a healthy, active life. Fareway, in partnership with Food Bank of Iowa, is working to fight food insecurity by donating 21,600 dozen eggs to hungry Iowans in need.

Food Bank of Iowa serves 55 of Iowa’s 99 counties. Other food banks around the state of Iowa also received thousands of eggs from Fareway.

“We are so grateful to be a part of Fareway’s focus on food insecurity during this challenging time,” said Michelle Book, president and CEO, Food Bank of Iowa. “In this time of crisis, we want every Iowan to have food on their table. We value our partnership with Fareway and are thankful for their help.”

Eggs are a great source of protein and are frequently requested from pantry partners. Fareway’s donation will help fight food insecurity in Food Bank of Iowa’s 55 counties they serve.

The company keeps Iowa food banks and their efforts to feed Iowans top of mind.

”We are so proud to partner with the Food Bank of Iowa to provide access to healthy food options for Iowa families,” said Clint Jenkins, vice president of wholesale purchasing at Fareway.

In conjunction with the 21,600 dozen eggs donation, Fareway also donated 33,888 granola bars to Food Bank of Iowa the same day. The eggs and granola bars will be distributed to Food Bank of Iowa’s partner agencies across the state to feed families, children and seniors.
