Food Bank of Iowa CEO Received Bell Tower of Fame Award

June 16, 2021 | Media Center, Press Releases

Last Friday, June 11, Food Bank of Iowa CEO Michelle Book received the Bell Tower of Fame Award that was given to her in Greene County. This award recognizes individuals whose professional or personal accomplishments internationally, nationally or statewide bring great pride to Greene County.

“The committee wanted the honorees to be terrific examples for what the youth of Greene County can accomplish and the impact they can have as they enter their adult life and over their lifetime,” said Carole Custer, past chair of the Bell Tower Festival and chair of the selection committee.

Book became the president and CEO of Food Bank of Iowa in 2016 and makes it her mission to feed hungry Iowans in the food bank’s 55-county service area. The COVID-19 pandemic doubled food insecurity, impacting children, seniors, families and veterans. With the help of volunteers, donors and partners, Food Bank of Iowa showed up and met the need of thousands of Iowans.

“As decades of life accumulate, it has become more and more evident that Jefferson set me on a straight course for success,” Book said. “I owe Jefferson a debt of gratitude. Thank you to the community for your investment in me.”
