Delivering Hope to Iowa’s Families!

“We wouldn’t have food if it wasn’t for this pantry,” says Terence, a father of four, ranging in age from 8 to 17.

The Boone Alternative High School pantry is an anchor for his family because his disability income only covers rent, car insurance and utilities. There’s often nothing left to buy food.

“When school went virtual, it was a struggle to feed my kids when they were home learning,” he says. And the summer months ahead will present similar challenges because his kids won’t have access to meals they normally receive at school.

“I used to only worry about cooking dinner when my kids got off school, but [when] they’re home all the time, I have to worry about feeding them breakfast and lunch as well.

“My kids love going to the pantry, they get excited. It’s so important for my kids to get healthy food at this age. Eating fruits [and] vegetables is important for them. Nutrition helps my kids learn in school, as well.”

Terence is deeply thankful that friends like you support Food Bank of Iowa and help stock the shelves at his local pantry. To donors he offers “A big thank you. Without [you], there would be so many families in a bad spot.”
