The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, helps low-income people and families buy nutritious food at stores and farmers markets. Benefits are provided to eligible individuals through an EBT card, which works like a debit card at authorized food retailers. This USDA program was known previously as food stamps.
