About Karen’s Cupboard

Karen’s Cupboard is the on-site food pantry of Food Bank of Iowa. At Karen’s Cupboard, our guests receive a variety of foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, dairy, eggs, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, soups, and more. We also have a limited quantity of personal care and hygiene items.

We do collect a small amount of information from our guests. This information is used to explain the need in the area, show who we are serving, and helps us to apply for grant funding to support our operations. This information is not shared with other organizations and will not be used with anyone’s name attached.

Karen’s Cupboard is named for Food Bank of Iowa’s founder, Karen Ford. In 1982, Karen started our organization to connect local food pantries with large-scale resources that they could not manage themselves. Now, more than 35 years later, we’ve grown from Karen’s dream into an organization that distributes 1 million lbs. of food each month. We named our pantry Karen’s Cupboard in honor of Karen’s spirit and commitment to fighting hunger in Iowa.
