Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) is a partnership between the Food Bank of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, hunters, and meat lockers that allows hunters to donate legally harvested deer to be processed into ground venison and distributed to hungry Iowans.
The two main goals of HUSH are:
- Reducing the deer population
- Providing low fat, high protein meat to the needy in Iowa
The 2012-13 hunting season marked the 10 year anniversary of the program. Throughout its tenure, 2,354,696 pounds of ground venison has been donated to the food banks and pantries throughout the state. To learn more, click here.
