6th Annual Hope for the Hungry:  "Hunger in the Heartland"

Hunger, Nutrition, and Health Virtual Town Hall Meeting

Got Produce!?  Farm to Food Donation Tax Credit
May 9, 2014

As discussed at the conference, the Farm to Food Donation Tax Credit provides a tax credit for food commodity donations made to an Iowa food bank or emergency feeding organization. To become a qualified agency, you must register with the Iowa Dept. of Revenue. Register at www.iowa.gov/taxlaw/farmtofood.html click the link titled “registration for Food Banks and Food Pantries”, once registered the Dept. of Revenue will furnish you the forms to track donations.

Feeding America has released updated data and the interactive online maps have been updated with data for 2012.  You can access the data for the state of Iowa, our food bank service area, all the way down to the county level by clicking here.  Data has been updated both for the overall population and among children.

In addition, Cultivate Iowa is focused on empowering gardeners and community members to donate fresh produce to their local food pantries or other community organizations.

Fundraising and Grant Opportunities

Grant Opportunity: Building Storage Capacity in Iowa Food Bank Member Agencies
February 9, 2015

The Iowa Food Bank Association, in partnership with Feeding America Food Banks serving Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa Waste Reduction Center, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has announced a grant opportunity for agency partners being served by the following food banks: Food Bank of Iowa, Food Bank of Siouxland, Food Bank of Southern Iowa, HACAP Food Reservoir, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, River Bend Foodbank, and St. Stephen’s Food Bank. This opportunity seeks to build storage capacity within emergency feeding agencies serving Iowa. Grants will be awarded up to but not exceeding $1,000 for the purchase of an ENERGY STAR qualified freezer, refrigerator, or combination unit.

The Iowa Food Bank Association invites qualified food bank agency partners to apply for an Iowa Food Bank Agency Storage Capacity Grant. Criteria for participation and important dates are listed on the coversheet of the attached grant application. Completed applications must be submitted electronically (Microsoft Word or PDF) by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2015. All applications should be submitted via email to the Iowa Food Bank Association – grants@iowafba.org. Awards will be announced by April 17, 2015.

Walmart's Holiday Giving Program


We have received the following grant opportunity through Feeding America.

Calling all food pantries, soup kitchens and mobile food delivery programs! Apply to be selected to win a $20,000 grant from Walmart.

This holiday season, Walmart will provide $1.5 million in support of 75 food pantries* across the country, based on votes by the public through its holiday giving campaign.

The application for Walmart’s holiday giving program is now open and will close on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 11:59 pm EDT. The invitation code is jholiday. 

Applications will be reviewed by Walmart. Agencies that are selected by Walmart for voting purposes will be uploaded to Walmart’s website, and those that receive the most votes through various online channels will receive a $20,000 grant to support infrastructure and equipment improvements.

*Walmart’s holiday giving program is open to food pantries, soup kitchens, and mobile food delivery services that serve the public and that are operated by 501(c)(3) charities only. The program is not open to food banks. Please note that program eligibility is not limited to agencies affiliated with Feeding America food banks. This program is not administered by Feeding America.



2014 Darden Restaurant Community Grants Program


This is an exciting program that enables each restaurant in the Darden family to strengthen relationships and contribute to the wellbeing of its community by awarding a $1,000 grant to support local nonprofits, whose work aligns to the Darden Foundation’s three community priorities.

Darden is encouraging Feeding America food banks and food bank partner agencies to participate in the program. Click here to learn more about the program and the grant application.
