In an effort to aid more children, families and seniors struggling with food insecurity, the Food Bank of Iowa is increasing deliveries and their Mobile Pantry Program throughout their 55 county service area. Beginning this month, trucks of food will be delivered to Fort Dodge and Storm Lake in addition to deliveries in Clear Lake, Creston and Iowa Falls. The new mobile pantries will be held in Eldora, Exira, Odebolt, Perry, Swea City and State Center. Existing mobile pantry deliveries in Stanhope and Bedford will also continue. Fares for Food Day to benefit the Food Bank of Iowa

For one day during this giving season, all cash collected on DART buses will be donated to the Food Bank of Iowa. Fares for Food Day will be held Thursday, December 12. DART riders can make donations of their standard boarding fares ($1.75 for local, $2 for Express, and $3.50 for Flex and On Call). Additionally, people who typically pay with passes or employer IDs can make cash donations of any amount that day. To learn more, click here.

STAR 102.5’s 23rd annual Combat Hunger food drive kicks off tomorrow at 12th & Locust Street in downtown Des Moines benefiting the Food Bank of Iowa. Combat Hunger is Iowa’s largest community-wide food and fund drive providing hungry Iowans in need with food during the harsh winter months and increasing awareness of Iowa's critical hunger problem. Fareway Stores donating 147,000 pounds of pasta to help hungry Iowans

Fareway Stores, Inc. is helping to feed hungry Iowans with a donation of 147,000 pounds of pasta to the Iowa Food Bank Association. Pallets of pasta will be delivered to the Food Bank of Iowa on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. This donation will provide approximately 1,176,000 servings of pasta to children, families and seniors who are struggling with hunger throughout the state. The Food Bank of Iowa announced a $25,000 grant from Morgan Stanley to fund its BackPack Program™, a child hunger initiative that helps to make sure kids are fed when they aren't in school. The Food Bank of Iowa’s BackPack Program™ is designed to lessen the consequence of chronic childhood hunger by providing a sack of kid-friendly foods to low-income elementary school children on weekends when they do not have access to the federal free and reduced-price meal program.

On behalf of The Walmart Foundation and its Iowa State Giving Program, Walmart will award $260,000 to Iowa nonprofits including Central Iowa Shelter & Services, Food Bank of Iowa, The Heritage Agency, Northeast Iowa Food Bank and Iowa Workforce Development Foundation. Food Bank of Iowa will be awarded a $75,000 Iowa State Giving grant and an additional Walmart Associate Choice award of $50,000 to fund its Red to Green program aimed at distributing more pounds of food per persons in poverty to help relieve the hungry in Iowa. As children get settled into a new school year, the Food Bank of Iowa is gearing up to tackle childhood hunger in north Iowa through the BackPack Program™. In a partnership with the United Way of North Central Iowa, the BackPack Program™ will provide a sack of child friendly, easy-to-prepare, nonperishable food items for the weekend when children do not have access to the free and reduced price meal programs.
Beginning tomorrow, August 27, the food bank will be making scheduled trips to United Way of North Central Iowa’s office in Mason City where volunteers will come together to assemble and pack sacks for over 600 kids each week distributed in 22 north Iowa schools. To learn more, click here.

In late 2012, Fareway Stores and Sparboe Farms joined forces to help feed hungry Iowans with a donation of 19,800 dozen eggs to the Iowa Food Bank Association – that’s 237,600 eggs! Pallets of fresh eggs will be delivered to the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines on Friday, July 12 at 8 a.m. This donation is a result of the campaign, Fill the Truck, where Sparboe Farms graciously donated one egg for every one dozen that was sold in Fareway stores across the state. The Arby's Foundation "Hungry for Happiness" mobile tour stops in Des Moines to help fight child hunger
The 2012-13 hunting season marked the 10 year anniversary of a one-of-a-kind program to the state of Iowa that helps feed hungry Iowans, Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH).
